After our Quilatoa hike, Peter and I took a tedious bus ride west to the coast to visit the Isla de la Plata, otherwise known as "the Galapagos for the Poor". Our adventure and luck was even better than we had expected: we saw almost a dozen humpback whales as we drove out to the island, and then thousands of boobies and frigates hopping and soaring all over the island! Finishing the day with sea turtles swimming by and some colourful tropical fish, we felt pretty good about our near-Galapagos experience!(Oct 21, 2012)
